I'm not one for horror, I'm not even sure why I originally bought the book but it remains a favorite. The stories are a mix of classic and contemporary and well balance in style and length. I bought it in the late 80s and its come out every couple of years for a re-read, now that's a sign of a keeper. My mate reads the book more often than I do so it doesn't seem to be specific to just my tastes. Purchase the book and you will not be disappointed, may loose some sleep reading into the night but you won't regret purchasing the book!
This is a great collection of short stories.
Loved this book. Read it when I was in junior high and many of the stories stuck with me. Not all winners, of course, but this introduced me to Lovecraft ("Pickman's Model"). Still one of my favorites of his. Also good are "The Screwfly Solution," "Chico La Fleur Talks Funny," and "Peekaboo." I still have my copy. It's worth picking up.
This is one of the best horror story anthologies out there. It contains a great selection of tales, and many of them are truly scary. Anyone who likes horror stories should get this book.
An outstanding classic collection. I suspect that the story One Happy Family was the inspiration for Katherine Dunn's later novel Geek Love. Many similarities and OHF came first.
I started reading this many years ago and didn't get to finish it for some reason or another. I finally found my own copy of this book and I'm so excited to finish the book!
