If you’re looking for a comprehensive overview of the popular arguments used for each side of the “Christianity vs atheism” debate, this book will give you that in a memorable story-based context.

To be clear, it’s not science vs religion. It’s very distinctly Christianity in the spotlight, not other religions, and there’s not really any science going on. A bit of engineering, certainly, but I didn’t encounter any hypotheses being tested and so forth, and anything technical is playing second fiddle to moralizing point-scoring.

Adherents of both camps are pushed to their extremes, resulting in quite caricatured characters—of course, there are really people like that too. The court case around which much of the book revolves is interesting insofar as it is a fairly classic debate scenario, although notably, neither side tries to make any manner of legal case; the actual reason for them being in court seems to get lost in the heat of the debate.

And suddenly, aliens, and an atheist church complete with pews and hymns. That part was rather jarring, for me, after the pace and tone of the rest of the book hitherto.

I always enjoy when an author does their research, and in this case one of the main plot devices for the sci-fi aspect is a real-world technology, human cryopreservation. There are, of course, remarkably few people in the world with a comprehensive knowledge of those processes, and as luck would have it, I am one of them, having worked in that field for a while. So, what’s the verdict on Pope’s accuracy? Hit and miss, but better than most. To avoid distraction in the main body of this review, I’ll put some details in a comment below, for interested parties.

All in all, a comprehensive tour-de-force of arguments for each side of the “Christianity vs atheism” debate, dramatized. If you want to brush up on the rhetoric for either camp (or both), then this is a great book for you.

Inherit The Whirlwind The Final Showdown Between Science And Religion edition by D R Pope Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Wow, this book was an absolutely delightful surprise. It is an extremely interesting story, one that people who often debate over science v/s God will love in particular. This is more true towards the end; the final 75-80 pages will definitely give you some answers. The book is written in the form of a courtroom drama between some religious factions and a deeply traumatized family of science followers who lose their beloved daughter in a bomb set off by the former.

The story revolves around Ben Colliver, his father who is a lead scientist at LEEDS, his deeply-religious mother, and the death of his much loved soulmate and sister, Holly. LEED is conducting research into estimating the exact time when a person will require a new organ, so that they can start saving for the same. This is all in an effort to increase the lifespan of people (at least those who can afford it). This leads to anger among some religious fanatics who one day bomb the establishment, blowing Holly to literal bits.

The courtroom drama that follows traces the age old debate about the existence of God, and the pertinence of the presence of Science in the quality and span of life, and whether or not it's interfering with 'God's plan'. The characters in this book are very well developed, the author D.R. Pope does have a knack for engaging storytelling. I would recommend this book as a thought-provoking and interesting read.
This is an interesting novel that raises some provoking questions, but I believe that some readers will be really offended with the characters portrayed here and the side the author clearly takes.
It is basically a story about science vs. religion. A scientist Joe Colliver works on extending human life, and when he makes a breakthrough, religious leaders around the world go after him and on trial against him.
As you can guess, the scientist are the good guys and the religious folks are bad guys and the plot makes that pretty clear. I would like some more nuance in the writing, it would be really interesting if the author played around a little with these views, but I guess he chose to go down this path. It is still a good book, it is interesting, easy to read and somewhat original in the plot and setting. Of course, highly religious people might get offended, but you can't really prevent that with any form of art or entertainment. Recommendation from me, check it out.
