I bought this book to see what it was like rather than buy the trilogy and then be disappointed. I am now half-way through and have just bought the next books as well, I am so pleased with it, it more than met my expectations. It could almost be a metaphor for what is happening in organisations today (that's not why it was written!) in that once people believe something, especially if it is 'tradition', it is really difficult to change their perception.Great tale, great characters - flawed yet likeable. Well worth spending your money on this series and writer....I will look forward to checking out some of his other books as well....

The story revolves around three main protagonists, an elf, a bard and a dancer. The Elf, Sendatsu, is the son of a leading Council member plotting to seize control. Sendatsu has no ambition other than to live a quiet life with his children, however his world is thrown upside down after discovering an ancient scroll that contains a horrifying secret. This leads him to become involved in a struggle of power between his father and the Magic Weavers. With his life in danger, he needs to find proof of what is written in the scroll and flees through a magical barrier that protects his kingdom. In doing so becomes the first elf to enter the lands of humans for over 300 years. There he meets a bard named Huw and a dancer named Rhiannon, who implore him to help save Huw’s people from the threat of being ruled by the neighbouring kingdom of Forland. Even though Sendatsu’s skill with a sword far exceed that of any human he tries to shirk away from becoming the hero they desperately need, only desiring to be reunited with his children. However the destinies of the three become joined as Sendatsu tries to find the answers he seeks that will allow him to return home.
As the story progresses, each characters personality develops and grows from the events that transpire and it was extremely enjoyable reading this take shape. This book had it all from love triangles to epic fight scenes to mystery and deceit with a pinch of humour thrown in for good measure. I enjoyed this book immensely and found the characters engaging and the world in which it is set excellently portrayed. The storyline hooked and reeled me in until the last page where upon I gave it to my partner to read who is currently just as engrossed in it as I was. I have already started reading book two of the trilogy and can’t wait to find out what happens but equally will be sad when the story comes to an end! I definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy adventure.
